Spider-man 3

So they're going to have Sandman and Venom as the villains in the next movie. But what about the whole Harry/Goblin thing? And they didn't even introduce Eddy Brock yet. And Sandman? Who cares about him?

We actually kind of geeked out about this at [info]_krista_'s halloween party. [info]fearghaill's opinion, which the rest of us agreed with, was that Sandman would be a throw-away villain for the first part of the movie, and get pwnt by Parker in the Black Costume. Then Spiderman gets scared of the costume, turfs it, and it gets picked up by Venom. And then we find out towards the end that Harry/Goblin has been subtly manipulating things.

Of course, that'd be the right way to do it. So no guarantees.

That does make a lot of sense, and actually sounds pretty cool. But still, Sandman?

Well, if they chose a non-lame classic villain to get pwnt in the first 30 minutes of the movie, it'd be kind of a letdown, wouldn't it?

They could have used The Lizard. Connors is already introduced, and he's really not a major threat unless he's trying to poison the city's drinking water.

Well, the Lizard isn't really lame. He's actually reasonably badass, as Spider-man villains go. He's at least worthy of co-starring with the new Goblin, isn't he?

He's cool, making it good to have him in it. But he's not as high of a potential threat as other villains, so he can be taken care of without it being climactic. Plus, as a character who knows Peter Parker, it could prompt the decision to ditch the symbiote when it starts to play too rough.

Well they name him in the first movie, but we don't see him or know anything about him other than he's a photographer. I would have expected him to be introduced a movie earlier than his transformation into Venom.
